STATE GROWN, HAPPY CANYON VINEYARD
55% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec
Our Merlot is grown on the hillside clay loam soils at the very top of the property. This special Merlot yields a deeply colored, intensely flavored wine, which is enhanced by judicious blending of additional estate Bordeaux varieties. This “Right Bank” blend is aged in all Taransaud French oak barrels (50% new, 50% neutral) for 24 months, stirred in barrel initially and then racked three times before bottling.
The bouquet leaps out of the glass with dark fruits, blackberries, cassis, toasty vanilla and an earthiness that develops nicely in the glass. The palate is all encompassing, defined rich and round with soft tannins. The layers of dark cherry, black raspberry and kirsch create complex mouth feel. The wine is amazingly silky, soft and dark, the mouthful of flavors finish with fresh red berries and a dash of mineral that provide the framework for a long and intense finish.
